Present paper is about to present ergonomics as an individual domain of knowledge and
to trace its goal. The elaboration consists five parts. The first one illustrates the discussion
over the issue of ergonomics. The second one presents criterions of erudition and discusses
various ideas of term „paradigm”. Third part consists general frames of development of
ergonomics in Poland and in the world and three stages of evolution of ergonomics. Fourth
part of the paper characterizes the contribution of so-called „Poznań school” into global
development of ergonomics. The last – fifth part is a conclusion of paper’s content.
